EREP adopted an integrated approach towards strengthening
of organizational capacity of ESCOs and facilitating
a market for their services. The Program developed a
wide range of activities to support ESCOs, namely trainings,
information dissemination, participation in pilot projects
and creation of a database of ESCOs.
EREP links formal training provided to ESCOs with hands-on
experience gained in project implementation. The classroom
sessions are followed by practical tasks. The types of
trainings delivered to ESCOs cover the following areas:
Proposal writing, project management and monitoring;
Energy Audit Techniques/Equipment;
Site Selection Criteria and Principles;
Principles of Energy Efficiency and CEM for ESCOs and
Site Energy Managers;
Practical course on weatherization
Energy Economics
EREP ensured broad participation of ESCOs in pilot
projects,
from site identification to actual implementation, monitoring
and evaluation of projects. First cycle of projects was
awarded to ESCOs that demonstrated experience and a proven
ability for pilot project implementation. ESCOs are encouraged
to collaborate with their counterparts that have complementary
skills in order to maximize their potential and implement
diverse projects.

In May 2005 a number of Armenian energy service companies
registered a non-governmental organization titled Association
of Energy Service Companies of Armenia. The Association
aims to enhance the market of energy services, strengthen
cooperation of ESCOs, advocate for the rights of its
members and build stronger relationships with various
structures and organizations working in energy sector
both in Armenia and worldwide.
Having conducted a series of meetings and workshops
with technical assistance provided through the EE, DSM
and RE Program, the directors of 8 ESCOs have discussed
the Association's mission and vision, charter, organizational
development, marketing, planning and other matters. A
working group has been identified to develop the Association’s
budget and coordinate all activities with regard to the
office setup. The Association President is Mr. Mikhail
Martirosyan, Director of Technokom Ltd.
For our part, USAID and Advanced Engineering Associates
International continue providing support and counseling
to the Association as it relates to strategic development,
organization of various types of training, study tours,
public awareness building and other issues.
The website of the Association is www.armesco.am
